  • Q
What communication protocols are supported, and is it possible to develop additional protocol modules?
    A
Our solution natively supports a wide range of industrial communication protocols, ensuring compatibility across various automation environments. This includes:
      - OPC-UA, OPC-DA (for legacy systems)
      - Modbus-RTU and Modbus-TCP
      - EtherNet/IP, Profinet, BACnet/IP
      - Siemens S7 (ISO-on-TCP)
      - Mitsubishi MC Protocol, CC-Link IE Field/Control
      - Rockwell/Allen-Bradley protocols (e.g., CIP/DF1)
      - OMRON FINS, LS XGT,
      - ABB, and others (subject to custom development depending on protocol openness and device specification)

In addition, our Edge platform includes high-performance, lightweight proprietary protocol modules that are custom-developed for each PLC vendor. These modules are optimized based on the specific packet structures and timing behavior of each model, enabling millisecond-level data acquisition with low CPU overhead.

While we provide full support for industry-standard protocols, our team also offers custom protocol development for proprietary devices or specialized sensors, as long as the target system supports Ethernet, serial (RS232/RS485), or other network-based communication interfaces.

This hybrid architecture allows our platform to support both real-time streaming and batch historical data with high reliability, even in heterogeneous multi-vendor environments.
  • Q
Is it possible to monitor PC-controlled equipment?
    A
Yes, it is possible to monitor PC-controlled equipment as long as the system provides a supported data interface—such as TCP/IP, OPC, shared memory, database logging, file-based I/O, or APIs (e.g., REST, WebSocket, DLL).

Our platform can connect to PC-based controllers or SCADA-type applications through various communication methods. For instance:
      - If the PC application supports OPC-UA/DA, Modbus-TCP, or custom TCP socket protocols, we can connect directly.
      - For applications that generate log files, CSVs, or databases, our Edge module can retrieve and parse the data on a scheduled basis.
      - If a custom DLL or API interface is available, we can build a connector module to access internal control data.

However, please note that certain PLC-native features—such as ladder logic visualization or I/O timing traceability—may be unavailable, as PC control systems typically do not expose internal execution flow in the same structured format as PLCs.

Field verification is recommended to determine interface feasibility, data availability, and update frequency.
  • Q
Is the platform applicable to overseas or remote plants?
    A
The platform uses edge servers installed at each production site (e.g., in Europe or North America) to collect real-time equipment such as sensors, robots, and inverters—without disrupting the local operations. These edge servers transmit data securely to headquarters using VPN or Ethernet networks.

At the headquarters, this data—like control logs, alarm history, and process trends—is synchronized and visualized on a central dashboard. Engineers can monitor the status of each site, analyze abnormalities, and even respond to faults remotely, minimizing the need for on-site visits.

In addition, all data is saved to a secure cloud environment, making it accessible for:
      - Remote diagnostics and troubleshooting
      - Comparing performance across factories (benchmarking)
      - Supporting engineer training and service
      - Expanding to new sites without redesigning the system

This architecture enables manufacturers to maintain global real-time visibility, reduce downtime, and ensure consistent production quality—no matter where their factories are located.

  • Q
How is cybersecurity handled in UDMTEK Platform deployment?
    A
The UDMTEK Platform incorporates enterprise-grade cybersecurity mechanisms to ensure safe and compliant deployment in both IT and OT environments. Key security features include:

    Network Segmentation & Access Control:
The platform supports OT/IT network segmentation through VLANs or firewall policies, minimizing attack surfaces. It implements Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to restrict system operations and data access based on user privileges.

    Encrypted Communication:
All data exchanged between edge devices, servers, and clients is secured using TLS 1.2+ and SSH protocols, ensuring end-to-end encryption and integrity.

    Secure Remote Access:
Remote access is provisioned only through VPN with multi-factor authentication (MFA) and secure tunneling (e.g., TLS/SSL, SSH tunneling). Access can be restricted to whitelisted IPs and enforced with session limits and timeouts.

    Audit & Monitoring:
Every user action is logged with metadata including username, timestamp, IP address, and access scope. These logs are tamper-proof, can be forwarded to external SIEM systems, and support compliance audits for standards such as ISO 27001, NIST 800-82, or IEC 62443.

    Offline/On-Premise Deployment Option:
For enhanced security, the platform can be fully deployed in isolated (air-gapped) networks without internet access, suitable for facilities with strict security controls.

These capabilities allow the UDMTEK Platform to meet enterprise cybersecurity requirements, ensuring secure operations without compromising data accessibility or system performance—aligned with Customers’s IT governance and industry regulations
  • Q
